Numerous people have written in to us at REWOUND wondering what direction the “This Month” feature is going to take after this month.

Well, let’s be perfectly frank about this. Webmaster Russell and historian Hollis are just plain too old to consider 1980 with any sort of nostalgia. It has been a struggle just to get enough interesting odds and ends to be able to finish 1979.

So… beginning next month, our regular features of 1949, 1959 and 1969 will follow their logical progression into 1950, 1960 and 1970, just as anyone would expect. BUT, instead of slogging into 1980, we will back up to January 1940 and give everyone a peek into what was happening in our beloved city 70 years ago.

Yes, we know that the general idea behind REWOUND is to document the post-World War II pop culture of Birmingham, but to us, 1940 is preferable to 1980 any day!

So, be watching next month when we again jump back in time… only it will be a LOT further back!
