Several years later, a realignment of state highway numbers would change Alabama 38 to the present-day Alabama 79. 

And for those of you on the edge of your seats pondering the whereabouts of Highway 38: it is the "unofficial" route number of good ol' US 280!  (Alabama, like many states, assign "ghost numbers" to U.S. highways, largely for internal purpose. Some road maps even have them listed.  US Highway 11 is Alabama 7.  US 31 is Ala. 3.  US 78 is Ala. 4.  And so on). 

And that's your trivia lesson for another month.  :-)
