That's right, "hillbilly" records were not "popular."  :-)  But Frankie Carle -- now that was a different story altogether!

In 1946, folks were getting "in the groove" with WSGN, the city's ABC Radio affiliate ... many years before rock & roll knocked on the door.  (It should come as no surprise that WSGN appeared frequently in newspaper ads during the '40s; at the time The Birmingham News owned it)
